Things to do in North East Scotland
The cottage is situated in the historic fishing port of Macduff with its picturesque harbor and its fisher houses nestling on the hillside. Traditional, wooden fishing boats are still built at Macduff.
There are boat trips available and the sea life of the Moray Firth is the focus of the Macduff Marine Aquarium.
This visitor centre with its display tanks and touch pools makes for an ideal family attraction.
The Whisky Trail, with the beautiful scenery and tastings, is a must. (See links page) The Castle trail, is a wonderful experience, with interesting buildings, and fascinating history, and of course very welcome tea rooms. There is also a trail of the ancient Pictish monuments and sites. Further information is available at the cottage.
For anyone interested in their family tree, there are excellent resources in the area.
There is much to see and do throughout the area. There is a superb range of golf courses all with surprisingly modest green fees. Royal Tarlair Golf Club in Macduff and Duff House Royal Golf Club in Banff provide their own contrasting challenges to all levels of golfer.
Within the region there is a wide choice of fishing available (sea,river,loch). Stalking,rough and game shooting can also be arranged. Please ask for further details for fishing and shooting. There are many delightful walks and whether you prefer a gentle forest walk,a long distance footpath,a more energetic hill walk or a coastal trail along the cliffs - there is something for you.
There are many museums and and art galleries in the area. Duff House at Banff houses some of Scotland's finest art treasures.
Activities
